Crop farming and horticulture support

Start with the Krishi Bhavan, then match the crop, land, irrigation, and season to the current agricultural component.

The first two basics

For many farmers, PM-KISAN and a Kisan Credit Card are the first national routes to check. PM-KISAN is an income-support programme for eligible farm families; KCC is a working-capital and crop-finance tool. whether you may qualify, land records, bank requirements, and current benefits should be confirmed at the Krishi Bhavan and bank.

What crop support can cover

Agriculture support can include planting material, seed, irrigation, pump sets, drip or sprinkler systems, organic inputs, composting, post-harvest equipment, drying, storage, and market linkage. The active components differ by year, district, crop, and available budget. The Krishi Bhavan is more useful than a general internet search because it knows the live local list.

SHM / MIDH and horticulture

The State Horticulture Mission, within the wider horticulture mission framework, has supported fruits, vegetables, tubers, mushrooms, spices, flowers, coconut, cashew, cocoa, bamboo, protected cultivation, and orchard establishment. Mushroom and protected-cultivation units can be attractive small-entry options, but production is only half the plan: identify water, power, climate control, and buyers first.

Insurance is part of the project

Crop insurance and Kerala-specific coverage can be valuable where floods, wind, disease, or seasonal loss can erase a year’s income. Ask which crop and area are covered, the enrolment deadline, the premium, and what evidence is needed for a claim. Treat insurance as a basic cost of farming, not an optional extra.
