Programme guide

Farm machines and custom hiring

Mechanisation support can reduce the cost of useful equipment, but only if the purchase, dealer, timing, and ownership route match the active programme.

What may be supported

Farm-mechanisation programmes have covered tools and machines such as power tillers, tractors, brush cutters, sprayers, pumps, harvesters, dryers, and small processing equipment. Support has often been stronger for small and marginal farmers, women farmers, SC/ST farmers, groups, and custom-hiring centres, subject to the current component list.

Individual versus group route

A machine that one household uses a few days each year may be better owned by a group or custom-hiring centre. Group routes can make expensive machinery viable by renting it to nearby farmers. Before applying, identify who will operate it, maintain it, store it, collect hire charges, and settle disputes. the group agreement matters as much as the subsidy.

Do not buy first

Many programme benefits depend on purchase from an approved dealer after approval, with a specific invoice and inspection trail. Take the model, quotation, ownership category, land or farm proof, and planned use to the Krishi Bhavan before you pay an advance. A full-price brush cutter bought in a hurry is still useful, but it may no longer be a supported purchase.
