Because it is Udyam-registered, it pays no tender fee and no earnest money, and the buyer's 25% MSE quota works in its favour. Its trademark application costs ₹4,500 instead of ₹9,000.

Kerala's industrial incentives (Entrepreneur Support Scheme) require Udyam status.

Paying ₹2,000 to an online 'registration service' for a free portal. Also: registering once and forgetting to update turnover and investment annually through ITR and GST linkage, which can drop the category.
Kerala's government hospitals, KSEB, KSRTC, universities and panchayats are large buyers on GeM. Pathanamthitta units rarely register as sellers. The ₹4,500 trademark fee matters to the many Kerala food and ayurveda brands that ship under names they have never protected.

Udyam does not by itself get you a loan, a subsidy or a contract; it removes obstacles. Medium enterprises are outside the delayed-payment protection. Traders are included for priority-sector lending but not for all scheme benefits.
